LEGACY BROCHURE

The Briarwood Band has a long standing tradition of excellence. We exist to help students cultivate their God given gift of music in a place that is safe and fun. We, as directors, want the students to leave a legacy for many years to come of a band than never gives up and always pushes forward to greatness – to never settle for anything less than their best.

The Instrumental Music Program is made up of students in grades 5 through 12 and is comprised of the Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Concert Band.

Providing first class equipment, instruments, and facilities are central to our mission at Briarwood in preparing our students for life and serving Christ. The generosity of those before us have enabled us to provide a starting point. However, we are in dire need of replacing many of our school instruments, most of which are 10 to 15 years old or more. Your gifts will enable us to replace our aging instrument inventory, begin a uniform fund, and see that our students are given the tools to succeed at the highest levels.

5th Grade Beginning and 6th Grade Intermediate Bands – The purpose of the Fifth and Sixth grade bands is to teach our students a love for reading and performing music that will last a lifetime. Students are introduced to the band instruments and are taught the requisite skills for higher levels of band performance for future musical enjoyment and success.

Concert Band – The Junior High Concert Band is an intermediate musical ensemble that builds upon the musical foundations learned through the Fifth and Sixth grade band programs. The ensemble perennially places students in the All-County, All-District, and All-State Bands and regularly receives superior ratings at festivals. Musical growth and excellence through band literature and performance opportunities is stressed, preparing these students for the musical demands that await them during the senior high years.

Wind Ensemble  – The Senior High Wind Ensemble is the premiere ensemble of the BCS Band program. The Wind Ensemble perennially places students in the All-County, All-District, and All-State Bands and Orchestras and regularly receives superior ratings at festivals.

Marching Band – The Marching Lions, in tandem with the Lion Guard, perform at all varsity football games, the annual Homecoming Parade, and marching band competitions.

Jazz Ensemble – Jazz Ensemble members are typically chosen from within the band program so they can further develop their aural, ensemble, and technical skills, while preparing a varied repertoire for the big band and modern jazz ensemble idioms. Class meets after school weekly.
