Briarwood Christian School is committed to preparing our students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. An essential part of this preparation is teaching students to use technology to access, analyze, organize, synthesize, and communicate information. BCS provides access to sophisticated technology through three up-to-date computer labs, computer courses, Interactive SMART Board Technology, and our Learning Unleashed 1:1 computing program (grades 7-12).
Computer Technology in Early Childhood and Elementary
Beginning in first grade, BCS students have access to computer technology. In the elementary grades, computer instruction centers on teaching basic familiarity with computers, essential keyboarding skills, and computer projects that are integrated with core classroom instruction.
Computer Technology in Junior and Senior High
In the junior and senior high program, computer instruction builds upon the skills gained in the lower grades by bringing the application of computer technology to real world situations. Computer ethics, computers in society and business, computer systems, word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and multimedia authoring are some of the units covered.
Interactive SMART Boards
As a part of our ongoing commitment to providing state-of-the-art technology for our students, all classrooms in the 1st-12th grades and all computer labs use Interactive SMART Boards. Interactive SMART boards are whiteboards that function simultaneously as a white board, a computer, a media player, and an overhead projector rolled into one unit.
Interactive whiteboards are used as replacements for traditional whiteboards, providing ways for showing students material on the computer (e.g., software applications), access web sites, show videos, news clips, model scientific and mathematical problems, etc.
